Thermal paper is a special type of paper which is coated from outside with chemicals that can change its color on exposure to heat. Its surface is saturated with a solid-state mixture of a dye and an appropriate medium, such as a combination of a fluoran leuco dye and octadecyl phosphonic acids. When this medium is heated above its melting point, the dye reacts with the acid, and the paper changes its color further the changed color is then preserved in metastable state when the medium solidifies back quickly enough.
There is a protective coating on top of this paper which is usually applied to reduce fading caused by UV light, water, oil, fats, plasticizer exposure. This outside layer also prevents wear and tear of the print heat. This paper is commonly used in thermal printers, adding machine, cash register in credit card terminals and offices. The result so obtained in very firm for longer period of time.
There are several advantages to using computer form thermal paper rolls with your POS printer, credit card or ATM machines. Reliability is one such advantage. The printing on Thermal paper is clearer then a normal paper, and is less likely to be grubby. Another advantage to using Thermal paper rolls is that it is very easy to handle in all of the applications that take thermal paper. Unlike other types of paper, which might be more difficult to load and align, this paper is actually quite easy to manipulate.
This paper offers high definition printing. The print obtained is clearer, more readable, and is more distinct than it would be on other types of printing papers. This paper is designed to work at different temperatures, and sometimes it is designed to resist things like water, oils, plastics, and adhesives.
